Claymont Fire Sends Man To Hospital Tuesday

Investigators are currently on scene in Claymont after an early morning fire.

A residential structure fire broke out in the unit block of Denham Avenue in Claymont’s Knollwood Development just before 3:45 AM on a Tuesday.

Reports from the scene described the home as fully involved, with a resident reportedly trying to enter the burning structure to save her cats.

First on scene reported heavy fire showing from a two-story middle-of-the-row rowhome. Firefighters immediately launched an attack on the fire. During the operation, there was concern for the safety of occupants in a neighboring residence, fueled by reports that someone might be unable to evacuate. Follow-up reports indicated that the individual may not have been at home.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that the fire caused considerable damage to the initial property. One man was transported from the scene to St Francis Hospital with undetermined injuries. The woman refused transport.
