The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating an early morning fire in Newark.
The fire occurred today in the 200 block of Emma Way, with emergency services alerted at approximately 4:19 AM. Firefighting units arrived on the scene to find flames visible from the home. Initial reports indicated the possibility of the fire starting in a bedroom.
As the situation unfolded, Command ordered all personnel to evacuate the premises just before 4:45 AM due to escalating conditions. At one point a Mayday was declared, however, it was quickly resolved. A quick accountability check confirmed that all responders were safe, with no injuries reported among the crews.
Command declared the fire under control approximately 40 minutes into the operation. Two individuals, identified as a resident of the home and a bystander, were transported to Christiana Hospital for medical evaluation and care.
Officials said paramedics arrived on scene and treated two patients. A 54-year-old male occupant of the residence was treated for possible smoke inhalation and minor burns to the extremities. He was transported to the Christiana Hospital, in Stanton, in stable condition.

Further details regarding the cause of the fire are pending, as investigations are ongoing. The Fire Marshal’s office is expected to release a report later today.
