Troopers Identify Man Struck And Killed Thursday

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an electric scooter near Newark last night, that left one man dead.

Officials said on April 11, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a Nissan Altima was driving northbound on Salem Church Road north of Reybold Road. At the same time, a Phantom Commuter electric scooter was driving southbound on Salem Church Road. For reasons under investigation, the driver of the scooter entered the northbound lane of Salem Church Road, into the path of the Nissan. As a result, the Nissan hit the scooter according to police.

The driver of the scooter, 32-year-old Randy Bempong of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, a 16-year-old female from Newark, Delaware was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
