Police Make Arrest In Today’s Wilmington Shooting

Wilmington Police have made an arrest in connection with today’s shooting incident.

Officials said on Saturday at approximately 11:34 a.m. police responded to the 1100 block of West 5th Street for a shooting that had occurred. Police said officers located a 46-year-old male gunshot victim who was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition. Radio traffic at the time indicated that the victim may have driven himself to the hospital.

The case was assigned to Detective Paul Simonds of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Simonds identified 36-year-old Luis Torres as a suspect in the incident.

Police took Torres into custody without incident. He was been charged with the following offenses:

Assault 1st Degree
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $100,000 cash-only bail.
