Four Hospitalized After Route 1 Crash Sunday Night

Delaware State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle collision that occurred on Route 1 Southbound near the Drawyer Creek Bridge Sunday.

At approximately 10:21 p.m. last night. New Castle County Paramedics and several fire companies responded the the incident, which involved four passenger vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries.

Lieutenant Abigail Haas said that upon arrival, first responders discovered a serious collision scene. Four individuals were in need of medical attention and were subsequently transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for treatment.

Haas detailed the conditions of the victims involved in the accident. A teenage female, seated in the front passenger side of one of the vehicles, was treated for a head injury and potential internal injuries. She was listed in serious condition at the time of her transport. Additionally, a 53-year-old female driver was treated for injuries to her extremities, as well as possible head and internal injuries, and was in serious but stable condition. Two other patients were transported by basic life support ambulances with less serios injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is currently being conducted by the Delaware State Police.

Haas said responding agencies included the New Castle County EMS, Odessa Fire Company, Delaware City Fire Company, and Port Penn Fire Company.
