Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant has laid off its employees in several states this morning according to an email sent to its employees.
A message sent to staff Thursday announced the immediate closure of all restaurant locations and the company’s decision to file for bankruptcy. Leadership cited ongoing financial challenges as the reason for the shutdown employees told FSU.
Earlier this month, the company closed its flagship location in Newark, which had served as its original brewpub and symbol of the brand since the mid-1990s. The Newark closure came alongside shutdowns in Voorhees, New Jersey, and the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia.
The restaurant chain had built a multi-state footprint with locations in Delaware, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Its expansion over the years included sites in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Greenville, South Carolina, and the company had once outlined growth plans in southern markets.
Company leadership described the decision as difficult but necessary, stating that efforts to secure additional funding had been unsuccessful employees told FSU. The announcement had words of gratitude for staff contributions. Employees that contacted First State Update were caught off guard at the decision.
