Driver Airlifted After Tractor-Trailer Overturns Sunday

A tractor-trailer overturned on the Lorewood Grove Road offramp from Route 1 southbound in Middletown, resulting in a road closure Sunday morning.

Emergency crews from several fire companies, the New Castle County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 responded just before 10:50 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the driver heavily trapped inside the vehicle. Rescue teams worked for an extended period to free the driver, who was then transported to a landing zone at the nearby DelDOT yard.

The driver was airlifted to a trauma center. Although the extent of the injuries has not been officially confirmed, they are believed to be non-life-threatening. The road remains closed as crews clear the wreckage.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
