Two Seriously Injured In Claymont House Fire Tuesday

This morning, the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office began investigating a house fire in Claymont, Delaware that left two people injured. According to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio, the blaze was reported shortly before 9 am in the unit block of Everett Avenue.

The Claymont Fire Company arrived at the scene to find the three-story house engulfed in flames and two occupants of the home in the front yard. An adult woman in her 20s was transported to Christiana Hospital in Newark for smoke inhalation, and a 13-year-old male was taken to the Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington with the same injury. Both individuals are currently in serious condition.

State fire investigators are still working to identify the origin and cause of the blaze. The fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damage. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the three adults and one child who are displaced by the fire.
